The main outcome of the Bhopal-India Process is to develop a set of National Level Criteria and Indicators that help in measuring sustainability of Indian forests.

In addition, these C&I envisage to effectively assess and monitor Sustainable Forest Management at the Forest Management Unit level. The communities and foresters are the real users and managers of the forests. Hence it is imperative that they are sensitized about the significance of SFM and C&I and also their skills be developed to monitor the changes. This would assist in timely and adequate intervention to ensure SFM.
